Sometimes new times call for new measures, and with that method in mind, Philipp Kroll, the owner of Lobby Skateshop, managed, together with adidas, to create some new obstacles for the local Hamburg scene. It might be common knowledge to some of you, but companies have their budgets divided up into different pots, so when Phillipp had the idea to create a new set of obstacles for their famous plaza, he had to get creative, instead of straight up asking adidas to pay for some new obstacles he sold them on the idea of having all the pieces be part of the Lobby shop window first. This connected it all and it became a clever marketing tool for the new Superstar ADV shoe. Needless to say, he managed to sell adidas on the shop window idea and presented adidas with an additional local activation. Win, win! He hit it out of the ballpark, because he managed to find a way to do something good for the skate community, do it in a very environmental way while giving adidas a moment to shine in the “Hanze Stadt”. Like Haniball in the A-Team always said, “I love it when a plan comes together!”, all credit to Lobby & adidas for doing this.

I think we all know that skate shops are still the home of skateboarding, right? I mean getting your first ever “pro-setup” over the internet just doesn’t seem right to me. But hey maybe I am just a “boomer”, or a nerd who cares too much about wheelbase and the best material on a shoe to make it last long while still skating good. Possibly this function could be taken over by an A.I. skater, but until that day and maybe even beyond that moment, I feel that connecting with the sub-culture you enter and connecting with people that could be your future mates is the most important part of the skateboard experience. Lobby in Hamburg gets that part right, amongst so many others, and this event at “Roter Platz together with /// is a testament to that.
