Hugo’s Placelist – Miscellaneous
Truth be told, when we asked Hugo Maillard to do these we knew that we would get something eclectic, something new, something else! This “Placelist” is a clear move towards our prediction.
Below you will find one explanation of what this list means to its curator. Read it, love it, live it. Obviously the French had to do it in French too.
ENGLISH
Do you want to jump from the roof of public toilets? Throw yourself in the glass of the nearest bus shelter? listen to those songs first. You can also listen with air pods, but it’s still better if you listen to it before joining your friends in a session.
ENJOY!

Hugo’s Placelist – Piano Delights
Hugo Maillard is known for his creativity on the board but those that know him are aware that he is, in fact, creative in all other avenues of life. Painting, dancing, writing & finally music are all parts of Hugo’s pallet.
This first new Placelist by our newest contributor is focussed on one theme “Piano music” in its multiple facets. Read his own explanation and press play.
INDOLENCE ET INCISIVITE
(indolence and incisiveness )
I had my first thrills with piano music passion when I first heard this piece of d’éon called “118”. The inner world of this song seemed so good and beautiful to me, and the urge to reach it and get into it through learning, playing and testing became urgent.
Then my listening kinda developed itself and, maybe, my ear, although I don’t think that means something very important, and I was unconsciously directed towards the piano instrument itself, the vibrating one who lives next to you in its heaviness and which produces real sounds that go through you like the air you breath. Firstly Impressionism, minimalism and now to the doors of jazz I wander. At the same time, I discover, learn and shiver. This list airs some of my favorite piano songs.
Track List:
- D’éon – 118
- Maurice Ravel – Le tombeau de couperin, forlane
- Carlos Guastavino – tres romances argentino, muchacho jujeo
- Chilly Gonzalez – Rideaux Lunaires
- Phillipe Katerine – à l’Elysee
- James Horner – rolfe purpose from the movie the new world
- Timothy Duval – Ball
- Brian Eno – By this river
- H.hunt – C U soon
- Emahoy Tsegue Maryam Guebrou – Homesickness
- Maurice Ravel – Une barque sur l’océan
- Ryuchi Sakamoto – Undercooled
- Wim Mertens – Iris
- Phillipe Katerine – Moment parfait
- Emahoy Tsegue Maryam Guebrou – Mothers love
- Ryuchi Sakamoto – Opus
- Daniel Johnston – Some things last a long time

FUNBOX – A Place Full-Lenght
It has been a while since a Skateboard Magazine from Europe released a full-length video project with the magazine at once. Our issue 61 comes with a 19-minute film, all filmed with a VX and Hi8. In times of Instagram and extremely fast ways of having your footage being released, we as a team got together and worked on this video for about four weeks. Thaynan Costa, Hugo Maillard and Willem van Dijk came for a visit and every one of these guys killed it.
A big thank you to everyone involved, besides the lineup above this video features: Tjark Thielker, Timo Meiselbach, Nils Brauer, Jan Hoffmann, Paul Röhrs, Giorgi Armani, NSVC, Alex O’Donahoe, Peter Buikema, Deniz Bulgurcu, Daniel Pannemann, Roland Hoogwater, Valentin Cafuk, Alex Raeymaekers, Mats Edel, Jonas Heß & Danny Sommerfeld.
Filmed and edited by Peter Buikema.

Hugo Maillard – FUNBOX
We are proud to present you our first section of the ‘Funbox‘ video we filmed over the past few weeks. Hugo Maillard came to visit us in Berlin and in only a handful of days, he easily managed to understand how the city works. The result is this video part, where he not only skates in front of the lense but also composed the song that is playing in the background. Here’s Hugo, tomorrow we will put out the whole thing. Filmed and edited by Peter Buikema.
With the friendly support of adidas Skateboarding. Big S/O to Daan Dam & Henrik Biemer.
Romain Batard – Giddy #03
Romain Batard has been putting out so much footage lately that we feel he might not have a day job anymore.
But truth be told, with skills like his maybe filming should be your only focus.
Featuring:
Hugo Maillard, Alexis jamet, Clément Harpillard, Louis Deschamps, and Eby Ghafarian.
Hot Picks With Hugo Maillard
We haven’t done this feature in a while, and we did not ever do it before last time but this is not a feature that we can do with everybody. Why? because Quartersnacks already has a really good Five Favorite Parts feature and we don’t feel like we need to do the same. But every now and then the right person will pop up and start showing us some skateboarding that drops our jaw (for whatever reason). Hugo Maillard did just that and that is why we present to you our second installment of Hot Picks With… (formerly known as Pop Picks With…). Enjoy!
One of the first things Hugo told me when I met him was about the Fancy Lad crew so it is only logical to start it off with Mr. Fiske himself.
Another orange themed Fancy Lad and as for this pick, the cherry on top is at the very end.
Not skateboarding but still skating.
To use a Ride Channel style tagline “Did he move it to the right after the video?”
Joe Moore is a favorite of this series and a true inspiration to us all.

Giddy #2
People who know me are probably aware of the fact that visiting Paris for the first time last year changed quite a lot for me. Besides my growing excitement for the French language, music and architecture, I furthermore figured out that there is also a kind of French way to skate. So Romain Batard also became one of my favorite film makers and since Giddy #1 was already filled with tons of good footage, I knew what to expect for #2 right before I hit the play button.
Featuring Hugo Maillard, Joffrey Morel, Steve Malet, Vivien Feil, Pierre Subra, Hugo Corbin, Etienne Chatelain, Louis Perruchaud, Alban Ma Tri, Jérémy Garcia, Thibault Parcheminer, Charles Giron, Antoine Ternon, Julien Ducas, Louis Deschamps, Clément Harpillard, Vincent Houget and Benoit Leray.
Giddy #01
A huge line up for this 6 minute long clip. Romain Batard picked up his VX1000 again and captured all these guys having fun in France.
Featuring Hugo Maillard, Louis Deschamps, Clément Harpillard, Yann Garin, Masaki Ui, Joffrey Morel, Alban Ma Tri, Juan Renoux, Amiel Kornicki, Hugo Corbin, Santiago Sasson, Thibault Proux, Louis Perruchaud, Paul Langsley, Hervé Leroy, Quentin Chambry, Augustin Giovannoni, Maxime Le Guyader, Simon Peltier, Samuel Dietzel, Justin Wagener, and Fred Plocque-Santos.
Rebound – Full Length
“We like to skate, we are having fun.” – This is all what Romain Batard has put as video describtion for his newest full length. And after watching it, I feel like I don’t dare to add anything more to that because sometimes saying less is saying more. However, you definitely should get your own impression!
Featuring: Joffrey Morel, Glen Fox, Santiago Sasson, Marc-Alexandre Barbier, Victor Demonte, Joseph Biais, Juan Saavedra, Oscar Candon, Steve Malet, Alexis Jamet and Hugo Maillard.
