It is with great pride we present to you our newest video by Nizan Kasper with the support of adidas Skateboarding.

This video is almost entirely shot in the “Park am Gleisdreieck” spread through the district Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, located in the heart of the city. Shot within only a few days, we managed to catch the very last good days of the year to spend outside, just to eventually end up at the bar playing Foosball.

Did we ever tell you guys that we low-key really like Foosball? More about the topic bar sports coming soon.

Featuring: Jun Kummer, Valeri Rosomako, Tjark Thielker & Benny Vogel.

Film and edit by Nizan Kasper.

When we flew to China we arrived at Shanghai airport as two tourists, my travel companion had been to the “People’s Republic of China” before but it was my first time in Asia. I didn’t know what we were in for but I was down to experience it all, we both wanted to see as much as possible.

We had brought along the perfect tool for that, an old Digital 8 “tourist style” handy cam. Armed with both the “handy cam” and our boards we chose to visit not only the Vans Park Series but everything else that Suzhou, Jiangsu and the Chinese people had to offer us.

First off, I have some information for you, “the internet” is not the same in the PRC, no Facebook, Instagram or even Google! This was at times a big plus because instead of looking down to our devices we looked up into the somewhat smog-filled part of the world we were in.

Secondly, we didn’t want to spend all our time at the hotel or at the event. “When in Rome” you don’t just want to stay inside the Coliseum, right? So one-day Oski (bless his heart) managed to get us some free (complimentary) bikes and we were off into the weird wilderness of China’s concrete jungle.

cycling

Now, we were two white guys. Normally that is not a big deal but we were in a part of China that did not have many westerners in it. This Caused us to become somewhat of a circus show at times. People wanted to skype their families together with us, stared without shame, took “secret” pictures and the biggest bonus, they allowed us to go and see and do everything. Nobody told us no! We went into temples, factories, sweatshops and “fake supreme shops” all with our “tourist camera” in hand.

That brings me to my second to last point:

Environmental groups are not completely against dams. We approve of appropriate development.

Ma Jun, Chinese environmentalist.

Now after reading this quote you might be confused about the link to the Vans Park Series right? Well, there is no link other than that we put a large percentage of “random” quotes in this video. Not normal quotes (spoken ones) but quotes printed on various pieces of clothing.

We found these quotes (in a store that sold fakes) that seemed random and were often badly spelled and connected them to our experiences in Suzhou. So instead of trying to make sense of the quote at the top of this article just know it is a random quote we found and used, in a similar way as all the others you will see in our video.

A small example of what we found.

Finally, if that didn’t convince you to watch the video let me assure you that we have included some great moves by people like Romand Pabich, Oskar (Oski) Rozenberg-Hallberg, Brighton Zeuner, Kokona Hiraki and a dancing, screaming but overall ripping Pedro Barros. Press play and enjoy the ride!

This collaboration between Mark Appleyard, GLOBE Brand and PLACE started with our “TIME ISSUE” in 2017.During the making of this issue, we asked Mark to create a drawing for us in just 1-minute.

This was the result:

From the moment we saw (1) Inbox with the title: Mark’s Drawing.”, we were all hyped! The result was good and it was fun. So we printed it and presented it to you- our viewer and readership.

A few weeks past and to be honest, we can’t remember every exact thing we printed but for some reason, this one stuck. So one day one of us proposed: “Wouldn’t it be nice to make a shirt with Mark’s drawing on it?”, we all agreed and so a phone call was made to the GLOBE offices.

Mark Berlin Dog

“Yeah sounds good, just a shirt though? We could do some pants, or a hoody and a shoe?”
Josh at the EU offices proclaimed.

That was more than we asked for so I told him: “Sounds good to me, I will talk to the guys and see what they say.”

That conversation opened up the doors for all of this to happen. A collaboration with a brand we grew up with and a childhood hero who’s parts we watched multiple… and we mean multiple times.

Ever since then we visited Mark’s house in Huntington Beach, threw his football into the neighbour’s lawn and somewhere along the way decided on a t-shirt, a hoody and a pair of house shoes (that you could also wear outside).

Mark and the GLOBE guys also returned the favour and came to skate in Berlin, which resulted in this video shot by Yentl Touboul.

Anyway watch the video and while you are at it watch some of Mark’s other parts, he is a great guy and we are proud to present this capsule we made together to you all.

Two weeks ago “Dit is Berlin” started.  Both episode 1 and episode 2 were well received, to say the least, Niels Bennett even made it into the coveted Quartersnacks top 10.

But all things must come to a close, even the good things. Our closing argument for these series features the entire German part of the adidas team. Guys and girls like Tjark Thielker, Phil Anderson, Catherine Marquis, Valeri Rosomako, Eric Erhardt, Daniel Ledermann, Philip Oehmige, Patrick Zentgraf, Sandro Trovato & Jost Arens all skated our city in their own way.

Some even (temporarily) moved here in the process of making this series but all seemed to find their own way. The high spot count and different configurations of certain spots definitely shows what happens when skaters have loads of time and no police to kick you out!

Another highlight for us is Catherine Marquis a.k.a. @Yung_k_t who we featured on our website a while back. It is great to see the /// putting support behind one of Germany’s most promising female prospects and we are waiting to see more of her in the future.

As the series ends would like to thank adidas skateboarding for the support! All the skaters for their input, hard work and sweat. And not to forget Jon Wolf and Torsten Frank who documented it all for your viewing pleasure.  Now go watch the newest and latest episode of “Dit is Berlin”!

Last week we launched our new “Dit is Berlin” series which started off with Philip Oehimige and Eric Erhardt. Both managed to set a strong precedent with their episode.

Today it is time for the second episode featuring two of  Norway’s finest: Magnus Bordewick and Marcus Shaw who both hail from Oslo. The latter willfully started a line with pushing switch mongo and then at the end of the line reverting to regular switch push. Some pretty OG Guy Mariano type of stuff, who happens now to be on the same team as Magnus.

Pol Catena and Niels Bennett hold their own and pull out some pretty tech moves. At times Niels is like a young Mark Suciu – in our book a major compliment!  Another fun fact about Niels is that he talks German fluently. Finally, somebody’s mixed American /// German heritage paid off. Trust us it made his life considerably easier during his time in Germany’s capital.

Next week on Wednesday we will be dropping the final episode of “Dit is Berlin” for you. Featuring the likes of Valle Rosomako, Tjark Thielker, Daniel Ledermann and many others.

We would like to thank adidas skateboarding for the support now go watch the newest episode of “Dit is Berlin”!

Today we are proud to present our new series called “Dit is Berlin”, a series consisting of three episodes featuring the /// striped squad.

This summer the adidas team rented out a house in the German capital. Over the course of multiple weeks, an ever-changing group of guys and girls went out with Jon Wolf and Torsten Frank to skate, hang out and of course film. Seemingly as locals, hanging out together with the locals while exploring the city by bike, as Berliners do themselves.

Our first episode focusses on two newer faces, first up is Philip Oehmige. A young Berlin local who knows the city by hand. It is not easy to do new things in your own town but there are some definite surprises in the video.

The second skater may need an introduction for all of you non-German readers. Eric Erhardt is a new face, one to remember. Eric put his best foot forward and came through with some pretty exciting NBD’s on some of the cities most skated spots. We don’t want to spoil it all but he brought home the bacon.

The up and coming episodes of “Dit is Berlin” will show a mixed crew consisting of some of adidas’ Berlin-based team riders and other people that came through and stayed in the apartment. These sessions resulted in 3 episodes documenting skaters like Magnus Bordewick, Marcus Shaw, Niels Bennett as well as German guys like Tjark Thielker, Valerie Rosomako and more.

Starting today every week on Wednesday we will be dropping a new episode for your eyes to enjoy.

We would like to thank adidas skateboarding for the support now go watch “Dit is Berlin”!

It is really not a secret anymore but still, we have not officially celebrated the fact that we did actually hit the 10 years mark by now. Together with Nike SB we would like to invite all of you to a very special location in Berlin. Find us at PLACEOne (Funny Enough) at Strausbergerplatz 19 on Wednesday the 18th of January, door open at 9pm. We are very much looking forward to celebrating this event together with you!

In honor of Dennis Busenitz, the brand with the three stripes threw a little get together to commemorate their 10-year long partnership. We flew out to München and found some time to talk to Dennis about how he ended up on the adidas, his snazzy colorways, his new shoe, growing up in Germany and Sami Harithi’s influence and more.

When it comes to skate trips, the amount of pleasure you will receive in the end is mostly based on the crew of people you are with. You will end up in new places with some people you never met before while you are feeling some pressure to produce good photos and shoot video footage. This process sometimes can turn out to be a lot of fun!

But at the same time, there is no guarantee that you will get some time to be yourself. In fact, this pre-spring trip was not even planned to with these goals in mind. This trip was in fact about a bunch of good friends getting a slice of Porto’s sun while tasting some of Porto’s culinary delights. We were documenting each other’s skateboarding whenever someone was feeling one of the spots the old town has to offer. We weren’t expecting too much, we had semi-working VX cam and some spontaneous coastal showers, this forced us to enjoy the other attractions of the city.

As a result, our daily skate activities were divided by coffee breaks and some sightseeing. In the end, we were surprised by the amount of footage we are able to present you with in the following clip. The whole thing was entirely filmed by the members of our crew, and if you are watching it you get the same feeling we had on this trip, the feeling of enjoyment when time elapses.
